Ingredients & Prep
8 ripe pears peeled stalk on
1000 ml
water
300 g
golden syrup
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla pod cut in half length ways & chopped 2 cm pieces
2 tbsp
lemon juice
2 star anise
Method
Step 1
Place all the ingredients except the pears in a saucepan, do not turn on the heat, peel the pears, add them to the pan as soon as they are peeled, bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer, cook the pears carefully until soft, about 10 to 15 mins depending on ripeness & size, test with a skewer or knife.
Step 2
Once cooked, turn off the heat, leave the pears to cool in the syrup, they can be eaten warm or cold.
Suggestion & Tips
If you would like a serving syrup, remove pears & all the spices, place back on a med heat & reduce until you have a syrup.
