Ingredients & Prep
540 g Filo pastry sheets
150 g Butter salted melted
400 g Mincemeat
100 g Ground Almonds
100 g Pistachios nuts chopped
1 Orange zest of
150 g Honey runny
80 ml Orange juice
2 tbsp Cointreau or Grand Marnier
Pre-heat fan oven to 150°C.
In a bowl mix all the filling ingredients well.
Take a 20cm by 30cm baking tin, then cut out filo sheets (20) the same size as the tin, then brush melted butter on both sides & lay 10 sheets on the bottom of the tin, then evenly spread the filling over the top of the sheets, repeat the same process for the next 10 sheets over the top for form a sandwich, any left over butter pour over the top.
With a sharp knife cut a diamond pattern through to the bottom, you can cut into any shape you like squares or use a pastry cutter.
Bake for 1 hour.
Make the syrup by placing Honey, Orange Liquor & orange juice into a jug & mix together.
Turn oven up to 180°C then take out baking tray from the oven & pour syrup over the top, place back in the oven for a further 5 mins & allow syrup to soak in, keep your eye on the top, don't not allow to burn.
Remove from the oven & allow to go cold, then remove Baklava pieces from the tin & place on a serving platter.
Suggestion & Tips
You can change Mincemeat for any fruit puree or jam.
